On March 25, 2011, I married the man of my dreams. We tied the knot and had a little ceremony in a small private island in Marinduque called Bellarocca.
Bellarocca or “beautiful rock” is located in Elefante Island off the coast of the “heart of the Philippines”, Marinduque province. Perched on a 20-hectare private island of mountainous terrain, this beautiful rock’s heart-shaped landscape and design is reminiscent of the exquisiteness of Santorini Greece, with breathtaking views of the Sibuyan Sea and Mt. Matindig.
Our first out-of-town trip together was spent in Bellarocca on February 2010 (Valentines Weekend). Who knew that it would be on the same island a year later that we would say our vows and start the rest of our lives together?! :-)
We had a small wedding that included our immediate family and some of our very close friends. The guest list was probably the hardest part of our planning since the island could not accommodate more than 130 people (100 guests, 30 suppliers) . We didn’t have a choice but to cut down our guest list since changing venue was not an option. Bellarocca was a magical place for us: Carlo and I wanted to re-visit our first romantic weekend get away and have the people closest to us witness our union on the very same island!
I think it’s every girls dream to walk down a long aisle during their wedding day and have that dramatic shot when the door is opened, music shifts, and the bride is revealed to everyone. Unfortunately, Bellarocca’s chapel was quite small, the aisle was short and it didn’t have a door. But luckily, I had an amazing team working with me that we created a make shift one and it turned out perfectly. Thank you Robert Blancaflor!
I can still remember how excited I was to see Carlo, our family and friends. I still get butterflies in my stomach thinking about our wedding day…
Having a destination wedding on a very small island made all the difference. Being away from the outside world and on a small island made it more intimate, sacred and very solemn. My heart melted when I saw everyone there (on time) to witness our wedding ceremony (we made our own vows!). My heart skipped a beat when I heard the vows Carlo had made for me… it was one of the best days of my life plus it was such an honor to have Fr. Suarez officiate our marriage!
Planning a destination wedding is no joke. One of the biggest hurdles we needed to over come was logistics. We needed to figure out how to get EVERYTHING to the island. All the food, flowers, tiffany chairs, plates and pretty much everything were sent in from Manila. There was no mall, convenience store near or even a market near by so the planning, preparations and execution was crucial. I’m so happy that we were working with the best people in the wedding industry and in the end, everything was perfect and beautiful!
Getting all of our guests to and from the island was a challenge -but- keeping them entertained was something Carlo, Danielle and both my dad(s) worked hard for. We were rehearsed for weeks! My dad and I danced to “The Way You Look Tonight” which brought tears to my eyes as pictures were flashed of our very first father -daughter dance we had back in 1986 (I was 6 years old). Carlo and I danced to “Dirty Dancing: Time of Your Life” which segued to “Black Eyed Peas Dirty Bit” which included Danielle – our very first dance as a family!
BEST SURPRISE EVER! My father-in-law was a show stopper and crowd favorite as he sang a medley of songs which he personalized for Carlo and I.
When Carlo and I first started dating, he was sending me CD’s and making me listen this band called UDD: Up Dharma Down, while he was on vacation in South Africa. (How he had them sent and his efforts of keeping in touch with me while he was on game drives & safaris without signal – TOO SWEET! :-)) Since then we’ve been hooked to UDD and would follow them when they would play in local bars – I get goosebumps remembering that they performed in our wedding. Armi’s (the lead singer) voice is heavenly!
Our wedding started off as a dream which we turned into a reality. We’re over the moon and ecstatic that we were able to share our special day with the people we cherish the most!
The preparations lasted a couple of months, the ceremony lasted a few hours but I’m definitely looking forward to all the precious moments Carlo, our kids and I will share. Now, Forever, ETERNALLY!
