It’s too bad that I live in a tropical country. In other parts of the world, “fur season” is fast approaching! Oh what I would give to live in a cool country just to wear winter outfits and fur coats. Now-a-days, a lot of people are at a crossroad between buying faux fur and real fur. Even some of the biggest brands in the industry are going vegan.

For example, Lanvin recently released faux fur coats for their F/W 2014 collection. While Stella Mc Cartney has always been committed to being socially responsible – they refuse to use leather, skins (python, crocodile and other exotics), or furs in any their products.

On the other hand, any fashionista or fur lover knows that there’s no other fashion house in the world, that makes fur products like Fendi. Fendi is the only fashion house with its own fur atelier. A Fendi fur coat is iconic and is the epitome of luxury! AND it also comes with a hefty price tag. A Fendi gillet costs at least $8,000 while a coat will start at $10,000 up depending on the kind of fur used.

I don’t know many people who will drop that much money on a fur coat especially if they’re living in a tropical and very humid country like the Philippines -BUT- there are other alternatives:

Hong Kong: Lane Crawford has a pretty good selection of furs.

U.S.A: Neiman Marcus, Barney’s New York, Saks Fifth Ave. & Bergdorf Goodman have a great range of designer & non-designer fur at various price points.

Barcelona, Spain: LA SIBÈRIA | Ganduxer 44 Rambla de Catalunya | Tel. 93 200 63 60 They will give a big discount if you buy more than one, bigger discount if you pay in cash AND there’s a tax refund for foreigners at the airport.

Online: www.NET-A-PORTER.com and www.luisaviaroma.com  (It’s shipped directly to your doorstep – taxes are included in the costs. Note: small sizes run out fast)

OMG. It’s like I died and went to fur heaven. It was my first time to ever see a market that sold all genuine fur and leather. It was a whole floor dedicated to fur coats, gillets, gloves, hats, mufflers, shawls etc. in rabbit, fox, racoon, lynx, chinchilla, mink and even sable with pretty good quality. And the price.. the price was just right and negotiable! Tip: Bring cash because if you use your credit card they won’t give a discount and some vendors increase their price by 10%.

Location: KWANGHEE/Gwanghee Fur Market located in 94 2F Kwanghee Bulding, 777 Sindang-dong, Chung-gu, Seoul | Ask your concierge to call them prior to make sure they’re open.

Oh and don’t forget: Generally, furs should be stored in a temperature, humidity controlled vault and should also be conditioned every year to keep them looking new and fresh.
