Last June 12, 2015, Carlo and I celebrated the 117th year of Independence at MEGA Magazine’s Pinoy Pride Ball. This year’s ball came in strong and in full force as MEGA Magazine together with their new breed of Filipinos (radical individuals who have made a mark in the industry) created a lot of noise over social media. And fortunately, that included moi. haha! Check out my previous post on MEGA Magazine: The New PH to refresh your memory.
It has been tradition that during the Pinoy Pride Ball, MEGA Magazine pays tribute to global Pinoys for their contribution to putting the Philippines in the global map. And guess what??? I was given the privilege to introduce the women behind one of the most successful beauty brands in our country today: Happy Skin. To know more about Happy Skin visit my previous post, Happy Skin: Beauty in Bloom!
As much I love being on stage.. the problem is I don’t know how to sing, nor dance, or have any talents & skills to perform… the only thing I can ever contribute is taking up physical space with my presence on stage — in this case it was my rockin’ outfit by Mark Bumgarner, Ann Ong statement accessories and my pompadour hair. ANNNND yet I still never seem to get it right, hahaha! OMG. Anyway, that night I arrived early to practice with no less than Manila’s most sought after Director, Mark Carandang. Of course I freaked out when I saw the stage and attempted to walk down all those flights of steps in heels….I was nervous, sooo scared to trip and fall flat on my face… I couldn’t even socialize with anyone the whole night because I was trying to memorize my lines. So I practiced.. and practiced.. and practiced – ALL NIGHT- throughout cocktails, dinner and while waiting back stage.
So I made it up and down the flight of stairs without tripping. I semi-memorized the script so I could deliver my lines as natural as possible… and honest to goodness I really THOUGHT I managed and pulled through…. UNTIL we got home and my husband Carlo told me that more than half the room probably didn’t hear or understand a thing I said. My reaction: excuse my language but… “OOOOHH SH*****T!!!!!!! So I was taking to myself???? WTF. OMG!!!!!!!!!! That’s sooo not cool!!!”. Check out the photos above, I was so nervous that I failed to realize that I was so far from the mic. Another epic fail moment. EEEEEEEEEK!
But in all honesty, I felt bad NOT because I looked stupid on stage with my little monologue to myself BUUUUT because the Pinoy Pride awardees, HAPPY SKIN and the women behind it’s success deserves a full on PROPER INTRODUCTION which should’ve been heard by every single person in the room. They earned it, worked so hard for it and I really screwed up their “moment”…
I know there are never any real second chances in life and for whatever it’s worth… I’d like to share this moment with everyone reading my blog because these inspiring women DESERVE that PROPER INTRODUCTION. So here it goes…. TAKE 2!
Spiralling from a desire to create products that enhance Filipino beauty, they’ve produced a cosmetic brand that is globally competitive.
Happy Skin changed the face of the local beauty industry and became a staple brand that is patronized by many.
Let’s welcome on stage Ms. Jace Yuengtian-Gutierrez and Ms. Rissa Mananquil-Trillo.
Gosh.. I can only wish to turn back time, take that mic and say the introduction at the top of my lungs. I will eventually conquer this and will make an effort to practice. But until then… I guess this is all I can do.
But on a more positive note: I didn’t trip or fall… Happy Skin’s Rissa & Jacqe received their awards and took over that stage oooooozing with appeal, beauty and confidence -AND- MEGA magazine threw one hell of a Pinoy Pride party!!!
Congratulations to the MEGA MAGAZINE Team and of course to Happy Skin’s Rissa Mananquil-Trillo & Jacqe Yuengtian-Gutierrez for making a difference and putting the Philippines in the global map. You are truly world class & our PINOY PRIDE. You guys make me proud to be Filipino!
And before I sign off for the night…
To: the MEGA Magazine team, thank you for the faith and for believing that I could actually pull this whole “stage” thing off. But I just have to apologize for messing this one up especially since it wasn’t about me, it was to honor our Pinoy Pride: Happy Skin’s creators.
To: Happy Skin, Rissa & Jacqe….. I’M SOOOOOOOO SOOOOOOOO VERY SORRY for ruining your moment and for not being able to deliver your well deserved introduction. You both are truly an inspiration and definitely represent #TheNewPH. I wish you all the best and more success! You guys have rocked the Philippines and the beauty industry — we women adore you. And THAT deserves a BIG CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
