Lifestyle-Asia-1

In February 2013, I received a call from Cristina Gomez asking if I was open to do a feature for Lifestyle Asia. Before discussing any of the details, she told me that their Editor-in-Chief Anna Sobrepeña wanted to have lunch with me to discuss what the feature was going to be about. During the lunch, Anna asked me questions about the cosmetic procedures I’ve had done, my reasons behind it and how it affected my life. She then asked if I was willing to featured in their Beauty and Wellness issue and share my personal experiences of cosmetic surgery. I automatically said, “Yes, why not!”.  To my surprise, that’s when Ana dropped the bomb and said, “Ok, then. You’re our cover girl for our March issue!”

To this day, I still get butterflies in my stomach just thinking about it. I was shocked, flattered and happy! I knew my doctor did well.. but the Lifestyle Asia cover feature.. THAT was icing to the cake and validated it! I was very excited to do the feature since I had never been on a magazine cover. The only people I told other than my husband were my parents and sisters. Like always, my parents weren’t very pleased with my decision about being so open. I remember my parents telling me: “In Manila, people have cosmetic surgery done all the time  BUT they don’t talk openly about. They probably won’t even admit it even if it’s soooooo obvious!  Why be the first to do it and be crazy enough to admit it on print?”.

Here’s the honest and brutal truth: I’ve always lived my life like an open book, what you see is pretty much what you get. I speak my mind, I love to share and I don’t really like filtering things because I feel that it somehow veers away from the point. Hence, I’ve also never hidden the fact that I had my nose (and eyes) enhanced and simultaneously I made a conscious effort to change my hair, lose weight and change my overall appearance all at the same time. In spite of my being very honest and open, I guess some people are just too shy to talk directly to me or just feel the need to whisper (or judge me) behind my back trying to analyze what work I’ve had done. The stories that would reach me were actually pretty ridiculous and I just laughed it off and rolled with the punches since I’m happy, confident and I personally think that I look good. Most importantly, I feel great about myself – better than ever! Like anything in life, there’s no better story than to hear it straight the person’s mouth, right?!  And that’s what I did. I put myself and story out there. I shared my thoughts, feelings and experiences – everything’s on record, printed and published for the whole world to read!  WHY? Because it was the perfect platform to share THE TRUTH, my experiences and journey to beauty & wellness. Hopefully my story will enlighten people, open their hearts & minds to somehow make a difference and create an honest society.
